Hey Folks!
Barring vehicle problems, John and I ARE planning to attend the South
Sound Letterboxing Fest on Saturday. The expected relatives flaked out
till a future time.
Question I have...Is there a shelter with a plug-in for a crockpot we'll
be using, or should I go to plan B for food options? Am hoping to bring
something hot and meaty (sorry...not Trish's great Mushroom Broccoli
Chowder this time around, just my potluck special, which I'm ashamed to
say is NOT vegetarian).
If there is no plug-in, I have some other cold food options for ideas,
but if the weather will be chilly up in Steilacoom like it is in
Portland this week, then I think a hot dish will be more appreciated.
Can someone enlighten me on the status of electricity at this park?
Nails Family? Ryan? I know you've all been there, so no pleading the
fifth. I just want to help make it a really yummy experience if I can.
Any chance Legerdemaine will grace us with those absolutely excellent
cookies again? If so, man, are we in for a treat! If not...well I was
lucky to bite them when I had the chance! Will K-Martha appear or will
she be arraigned in court about that time, unable to appear unless she
escapes wrapped in an orange jumpsuit. HA! HA!
I'm so happy that we get to attend!!! Unless my old bucket of bolts of
a truck can't make it up there, it is almost a certainty that we will
attend!!!! YIPPEE!!!
Best regards,
Amanda Briles

I don't recall seeing any electrical outlets available to the public.

I concur, no electricity at the said meeting place, no cover either
unless you find a cozy spot under a poplar tree near the lake.
Better plan on buying a good DC adapter for the cigarrette lighter
for that crock pot.
By the way, I thought that the infamous Bill Burk had permanently
removed himself from this site. Glad to see you are back and I wont
be offended to meet you at the gathering.

As the others said, I didn't see any electricity options either. Nor
cover for that matter. If it's gonna rain, perhaps somebody
should try to bring one of those plastic tarp thingies so we can
stamp in in a dry environment? I'd bring one, but I don't actually
have one! =)
Hot food sounds great, but I'll settle for "warm" food if I have to
because it's cooled off due to lack of electricity. I know for a fact
there's a Jack In the Box nearby. *hint hint* =)
-- Ryan
Disclosure: I bought 50 shares of Jack In the Box today. Couldn't
help myself. I should be ashamed, but I'm really not! =)

OK, you had me laughing out loud with the bit about sneaking over to the park and rearranging all of the boxes. Of course, if the Nails can find boxes without any clues, maybe we just need to wander around and look where we would likely plant a box.....

Greetings all,
I admit, I've found a lot of boxes after GIVING UP on the clues or
finding the second or third in a series before finding the first LB
(even though finding the second or third boxes was dependent upon
finding the first)! My reward yesterday, however, for one of dear
Ryan of Portland's sadistic (affectionately, I add) boxes along I-5
in Oregon was finding no box but contracting a nice little case of
poison oak (since the darn leaves are starting to fall off nowadays)
along the way (and no, I don't mean a hitchhiker)--ARGH!!!
Perhaps we've come up with a new sport??? Rearranging
letterboxes? ;) If we added music, would it be known as 'musical
mobile letterboxing'? I can only imagine the possibilities!!!
See you on Saturday!!!

What?! Now I know that I-5 rest area letterbox is a pretty sadistic
clue, making you run around a parking lot looking like an idiot,
but it's a manicured rest area! Where the heck did you find
poison oak?!

Thanks for all the information on the lack of shelter and electrical
outlets at Ft. Steilacoom. Funhog suggested a camp stove would be a
good thing. Unfortunately, mine no longer works and John's is up at his
trailer at Lake Merwin. However, I will probably bring World Peas
(which is a yummy salad) and maybe something cooked, but placed in an
insulated deal in an attempt to have a hot or at least warm dish.
Looking forward to all the fun on Saturday!

Ooh! What a great idea!! I've got a camp stove I can bring along
for anyone that wants to cook or warm up some food. I'll bring it
along just in case anyone wants to use it, but if you do plan to
use it be sure to bring pots and pans or whatever you'll need for
doing your cooking. (I'd bring it, but I won't know what people will
be wanting or needing.)
